On behalf of the exceptional faculty and staff of Edward R. Murrow High School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2013-2014 school year. We are very proud of the 40 years of educational excellence that has come to define our community and we are eager and excited to continue our efforts to make Edward R. Murrow High School the best comprehensive high school in New York City.
“Edward R. Murrow High School is a large high school with a small school feeling” (NYC Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott, April 4, 2013). Our community consists of individuals who are committed to providing the CARE needed to prepare all students to be COLLEGE READY, CAREER READY and LIFE READY. This year, our school-wide instructional focus is “using assessment in instruction” which will help us to improve ways to monitor our students’ progress and make the necessary adjustments to ensure their success and our “TLC” goals are designed to provide the academic rigor that our students need and deserve.
This commitment extends well beyond our classroom walls. With a wide range of award winning teams, clubs, activities, and events in addition to our renowned visual and performing arts programs, Edward R. Murrow High School affords all of our students the chance to feel involved and invested in their high school experience.
This year our efforts will continue to add to our students’ overall learning experience with a state of the art Planetarium (coming in January 2014), the development of a new TV Studio program as well as online learning opportunities. I invite you all to explore our website to follow all the wonderful news and announcements of our community and learn more about the tradition of excellence that sets our school apart from other schools in New York City.
…because at Edward R. Murrow High School, we CARE about our students!
