Courses:

Next Generation Algebra, Next Generation Algebra (Bilingual Spanish), Next Generation Algebra (Bilingual Chinese), Common Core GEOMETRY, Common Core Algebra 2 & Trigonometry, Culture of Numbers, Financial Mathematics, PRE-CALCULUS, PRE-CALCULUS (College Credit), CALCULUS (College Credit), CALCULUS (AB), CALCULUS (BC), ADVANCED PLACEMENT COMPUTER, ADVANCED PLACEMENT STATISTIC

 

† Starting in 2013-14, New York State is aligning the ELA and math Regents exams to Common Core standards. Students, who begin studying high school math (typically Algebra) in 2013-14 or thereafter, must pass the Common Core aligned math Regents exam(s).For June and August 2014 only, students may fulfill exam requirements with either the Common Core or non-Common Core ELA and math Regents exams. Regents Diploma/ Common Core Math:

6 credits including at least 2 credit of advances math (e.g., Geometry or Algebra II)

Passing score^ on one math exam:

Advanced regents diploma/ Common Core Math:

                6 credits including at least 2 credit of advances math (e.g., Geometry or Algebra II)

Passing score^ on all three math exams:

• Algebra I,
• Geometry, AND
• Algebra II

*Student can prepare for college and careers by successfully completing: Eight (8) Regents-level credits, including sequence that consists of at least the following: Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II,

• Earn a score of 3+ on any Advanced Placement (AP) Exam
• Pass a course that earns college credit with a “C” or higher
• Earn an Advanced Regents diploma
• Earn a CTE diploma endorsement and/or pass an industry recognized technical assessment for licensure and/or certification
• Earn an Arts diploma endorsement
• Earn a score of 4+ on any International Baccalaureate (IB) Exam

* Mastery in Math (Advanced Regents diploma only): Students must score 85 or higher on each of the three math Regents exams. The New York State Education Department may determine new score requirements for this endorsement for the Common Core Regents exams.

The high school standards call on students to practice applying mathematical ways of thinking to real world issues and challenges; they prepare students to think and reason mathematically. They set a rigorous definition of college and career readiness, by helping students develop a depth of understanding and ability to apply mathematics to novel situations, as college students and employees regularly do. They also emphasize mathematical modeling, the use of mathematics and statistics to analyze empirical situations, understand them better, and improve decisions. For example, the draft standards state: “Modeling links classroom mathematics and statistics to everyday life, work, and decision-making. It is the process of choosing and using appropriate mathematics and statistics to analyze empirical situations, to understand them better, and to improve decisions. Quantities and their relationships in physical, economic, public policy, social and everyday situations can be modeled using mathematical and statistical methods. When making mathematical models, technology is valuable for varying assumptions, exploring consequences, and comparing predictions with data.”
