THE MUSIC INSTITUTE
* Note, the below information is for a traditional school learning environment. Due to the current pandemic the Murrow Music Institute has been nimble as we remain committed to a high-quality music education.
Three performing ensembles: Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band. Students have many opportunities to perform in and out of school.
The only high school guitar program of its kind!
There is a sequence of scaffolding courses.
The Guitar Ensemble is a performing ensemble that prepares students to be literate musicians.
Four performing ensembles: Junior Chorus, Senior Chorus, Treble Chorus, Chamber Choir, Gospel Chorus. In-school performance opportunities are Winter and Spring Concerts, a Holiday Concert and an Ensemble Recital.
Two musicals are done each year in the Anzalone Theatre. All instrumental students are encouraged to audition for pit orchestra. On stage, vocal students perform in a professional theatrical space with extraordinary sets, lighting, sound and costumes.
Two performing ensembles: String Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra. Besides an ensemble class, Music Institute students take a techniques class and a piano/theory class.
There are competitions and visits to universities for workshops, masterclasses and tours. Every year our ensembles perform at the NYSSMA Music in Our Schools Month celebration at The Empire Plaza in Albany.
